Picture of sleeperseasononepicSleeper - a sleeping agent, in a world of superheroes.
I learnt about the talented duo of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips through their Criminal series, which came after this Sleeper series (and before the new Incognito series).
They are film noir, they are crime fiction, they are everything you ever wanted that is dark, and nasty, and messed up.

I cannot recommend this series highly enough - the art is crisp and yet subtle, with swathes of bleak and bold lines and muted colours that combine with an excellent planning and script.

The powers are almost secondary, the focus is always on the main character and their internal traumas. The pains they experience by acting as a bad guy while being agood one (in inverted commas), is more realistic than many novels I have read, and most comics.

Yet Powers we have, a world of super agents crossing, double crossing, and triple crossing each other, of good people for the wrong reasons and bad for the right. Powers that equate not to spandex and flying, cheery aphorisms or simple ethics, but powers that compicate, that extenuate our 'hero's' dilemma.

Buy this. Spend CASH on this. Because good people with good skills doing good work, will benefit. Especially you.
