Subject:Graphic Novels To Change Your Life!

Tell us about the Graphic Novels that changed your life, that swept you away, that changed who you are and why you read them.

Not the cool, or the new, or your favourite character. The touching, hard, difficult ones, those you're not sure why but you can't get them out of your head.

What has moved you to tears, or to laugh out loud in public, to read and re-read it, to hand it to friends with a meaningful look and a "Read This"? Those stories that have made you understand that comics at their best can do things that books and film cannot.

What graphic novels are you so passionate about that we will be moved by your explanation, and want to go out and beg/borrow/buy it? Let us know!

"V for Vendetta" by Alan Moore and David Lloyd.
- it taught me I am the prison guard of my own life. Forget the film, this is becoming more like a true-prophecy of the West's emerging political fascism. The only way to change is to learn, and change yourself with fresh awareness. Incredible.

"Escapo" by Paul Pope.
- that being a coward about love is a form of death. From one of the world's best writer-artists comes a tale about an escape artist, and his daily fights with death, and his daily fight with a worse demon - love. Paul Pope's style is so fresh, exciting and quirky that not only is this extremely fun to read, it's innovative too.

"Cages" by Dave McKean.
- life is stranger and scarier and more beautiful than you can individually imagine. Despite the expense (at least double the release price due to its scarcity), i

ACME NOVELTY LIBRARY 19 -
Adult, sad, mature, beautiful, horrific, but true, True, TRUE. I won't tell you the story. You have to discover the levels yourself, like peeling the layers off an onion, eyes crying. Another masterpiece by Chris Ware.

I agree with Mr. Gray about "V for Vendetta".

GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH took my breath away! I had never read a Green Lantern book before picking up the hardcover edition of this great series, and it has re-blossomed my love of comics!

IDENTITY CRISIS actually made me cry! The part where Robin's father is murdered was heart-wrenching.

THE CARTOON HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE & other cartoon history series by Larry Gonick. These volumes re-ignited my love for history, and I've learned more from them than any high school or college history classes I ever took. Insightful, historical (duh!), and comedic it reveals history in a way noone ever has written or read!
